What to expect from a home inspection.
A home inspection is a snapshot of the property. The home inspection is intended to assist in evaluation of the overall condition of the dwelling. Your home inspector is a generalist - will defer to a specialist as required. What should be inspected? Roof: general condition of roofing material Exterior: siding, soffit, fascia, windows, doors, foundation, landscaping Basement or crawlspace interior: cracks, water intrusion, floor joists Electrical: service entrance, service panel, switches, outlets Water heater: size and age Furnace and air conditioner: sized properly, age, efficiency Plumbing: supply lines, drain lines, leaks, sufficient pressure, serviceability Attic: ventilation, insulation Function of doors and windows Kitchen appliances Safety equipment: fire extinguishers, smoke alarms, reversing sensors on garage doors General condition: sloping floors, major cracks in walls or ceilings, age appropriate deterioration.
